Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning for Elmer Stingley, long time resident of Creighton, who passed away suddenly at his home Thursday morning. He was 76 years old. The final rites were held at the Federated church with the Rev. J.L. Garland officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandchildren, Keith and Lyle Stingley, Robert and Delbert Hilkemeier, Elmer and Harvey Poppe. Rion Elmer Stingley was born near Frankfort, Ind., Nov. 7, 1869, the second son of Abel and Nancy Stingley. At the age of three years, he came with his parents to Nebraska, settling near Wisner. His father died when Elmer was eight years old and he helped his mother with the family until he reached manhood. On March 22, 1892 he was united in marriage to Rosetta Rogers at Stanton. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Blanche Hilkemeier, Troy, Delma and Lyle Stingley. Lyle preceded his father in death. He came to the Creighton community in November 1900 and lived here continuously since then. He retired from the farm in the spring of 1938 and spent the remained of his life in town. On March 22, 1942, Mr. and Mrs. Stingley celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Besides his wife and three children, he is survived by on brother, Frank Stingley of Creighton; three sisters, Mrs. T.J. McColley of Spearfish, S.D.; Mrs. J.F. Frick of Lincoln and Mrs. D.A. Lacy of Artesia, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Out of town people who attended the funeral services included Mrs. T.J. McColley and daughter of Spearfish, S.D.; Elmer McColley of Edgemont, S.D.; Roland McColley of Chamberlain, S.D.; Mrs. J.F. Frick and daughter and Mrs. Luella Smith of Lincoln; Mrs. Lilly Kinney and daughter and Mrs. Lilly Daniels of Stanton; Mrs. Rena Bishop and daughters of Plainview; Mrs. Alfa Mark of Central City; Mrs. Edna Van Sickle of Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. Daly Carson and Mr. and Mrs. Ned Burnham of Pilger.
