Marshall was born at Monongahela City, Pennsylvania, October 15, 1859, and departed this life December 27, 1932, at the age of seventy three years, two months, and twelve days. His parents passed away when he was a small child and in early manhood he moved to Cass County, Nebraska. April 7, 1881, he was married to Ida Mae Lynch (sic) near Alvo, Nebraska, and four years later they moved to Nuckolls County, onto a farm near Nelson, where they resider (sic) until the death of Mrs. Marshall January 9, 1927. During the forty-one years in this home they reared their family to manhood and womanhood. Their home was blessed with six children, one passing away in infancy and two sons and three daughters survive, viz: Earl Marshall, Greeley, Colorado; Ella Moorehead, Greeley, Colorado; Alma Hoffman, Fairbury, Nebraska; Lois Hoffman, Mankato, Kansas; and Virgil Marshall, Fairbury, Nebraska. He is also survived by one brother, Joe Marshall, Monongahela City, Pennsylvania; his two sisters having preceded him in death. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Shortly after he moved to Nuckolls County he united with the Evangelical Church and later the Presbyterian Church of Nelson, of which he has been a member ever since. The church filled a large place in his life and he encouraged his children in Christian living. He took a prominent part in community activities and was a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge of Nelson. Since Mrs. Marshall's death in 1927, he has made his home with his children. He has been in failing health for the past three years and the last year was spent in the home of his daughter, Ella Moorehead, where every comfort was provided for him. Notwithstanding all that loving care and professional skill could do for him he was called to his reward in the early morning of Tuesday, December 27. The remains were brought to Nelson and the funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church, on Friday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. F.G. Knauer of Seward, a former pastor here, conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. John Caldwell, the present pastor. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 5, 1933; pg. 7
