Description	:	Centenarian, Robert Edgar "Bob" Whetham, son of Edgar W. and Blance L. (Parliman) Whetham, was born October 27, 1909, at the family home in rural Lynch, Nebraska. Bob died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in Newcastle, Wyoming. Bob was the seventh childe of thirteen in his family. He grew up on the family farm, and attended country school in the rural communities in Boyd and Holt Counties where his family lived. Bob died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in Newcastle, Wyoming. Bob was the seventh childe of thirteen in his family. He grew up on the family farm, and attended country school in the rural communities in Boyd and Holt Counties where his family lived. Bob frequently missed school to help his family, but he persisted and graduated from Lynch High School in 1930; he was the first in his family to so. On September 29, 1930, Bob was married to Vada Izora Long at Burke, South Dakota. They spent their early married life as farmers, living on several places in Boyd and Holt Counties until 1945, when they had a farm auction. Bob then began employment with the State of Nebraska Transportation Department, worked as a substitute carrier for a "Star Mail Route", and did odd jobs until becoming employed by Consumers (NPPD) at the Spencer Dam Hydro Plant seven miles south of Spencer, Nebraska. He worked as an operator at the plant, until his retirement in 1974. Bob and Vada moved to Bristow, Nebraska, and while Vada continued teaching, Bob busied himself with a bicycle shop, gardening, and odd jobs. Bob and Vada spent their summers traveling, visiting family and sightseeing, even attending both the Seattle and Montreal World Fairs. They loved to dance and rarely missed one, and the couple took a drive everyday, weather permitting. Bob played the violin, accordian, piano, and harmonica, amassing a huge music collection. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Yankton, South Dakota for many years. Vada passed in 1999, and Bob remained in Bristow until 2002, when he held another auction and moved to Newcastle, Wyoming, to be near family. Until this move, Bob had always lived within a 100 mile radius of central Boyd County. Bob and Vada were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bristow, where Bob was still a member until his death. Burial was in the Bristow Cemetery, Bristow, NE.
