After leaving the Navy, he worked as a Teamster truck driver until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed working in the yard and eating breakfast for any mealtime at his favorite restaurants during his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Joe, Ted, John, and Herb, and his sister, Susan Whetham, and his stepson, Calvin Sandine.
