Description	:	Robert “Bob” E. Taylor, 89, of Sterling passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 in Longmont. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:30 am Friday, Dec. 26 at the First Christian Church. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 am with Pastor Lew Champ officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Bob was born on July 15, 1925 in Crook, CO to George W. and Kathryn P. (Masters) Taylor. He graduated from Crook High School and Northeast Junior College, and furthered his education at CSU, UNC, and CU. He served in WWII with the 8th Army in the Pacific Theater of Operation and was discharged in 1947. He met his future wife Helen when she came to teach at Crook High School. They recently observed their 66th wedding anniversary. He was a talented woodworker and both he and Helen enjoyed playing golf and traveling. After being principal and a teacher at Crook Elementary School, he became a rural carrier for over 41 years for the U.S. Post Office. He was a past state president and chairman of the National Convention in 1968. He was a past president of Western State Conference. He was very civic minded, serving 25 years on the Crook Council, 2 terms as mayor, chairman of project of merging Congregational and Presbyterian churches to the United Church of Crook and the building of a new church. He was one of the two founders of the Crook Historical Society. He was a member of and past commander of both the American Legion Post #20 and VFW Post #4191, past Fire Chief of Crook Volunteer Fire Department. He was the chairman of steering committee for merging the Crook, Iliff, and Padroni schools and for selecting the building site for the new school, Caliche. He was a co-chairman for buying the building and remodeling and relocating the American Legion Post. He was a member of the First Christian Church, life member of the Elks Lodge 1336, and Masonic Lodge #54. He is survived by son Mark R. Taylor of Fort Collins; daughter Lori Taylor and fiance Steve Tilford of Longmont; grandchildren Delaney K. Taylor and Nicholas Skadburg of Ft. Collins; many nieces and nephews as well as many special friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Taylor; parents George and Kathryn; brother Russell W. Taylor. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
