(Hub) Holcombe, 65, of Route 2, Easley, the Cedar Rock community, died at a Greenville hospital after a week of illness. A native of the George's Creek section of Pickens County, he was a son of the late Berry C. and Ella Granger Holcombe. He lived in Easley the greater part of his life. He was a retired merchant, farmer and carpenter and operated Hub's Grocery near Alice Mill for a number of years. He was a member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church, a member and secretary of the Men's Bible Class of the church and a deacon. He was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Masters Holcombe; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Ellenburg of Easley; a brother, R. D. Holcombe of Easley; and six sisters, Mrs. G. C. Griffin, Mrs. Victorine H. Crawford, Mrs. C. C. Grant and Mrs. J. O. Black, all of Easley, and Miss Earline Holcombe and Mrs. Sam Brown of Greenville. Funeral services will be conducted at Cedar Rock Baptist Chaurch at 3 p.m. Friday by Rev. W. A. Hampton and Rev. Herman J. Lewis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ben and Joe Griffin, Harold and Tommy Grant and J. T. and Marvin Hugh (Buck) Holcombe. Honorary escort will be deacons and members of the Men's Bible Class of Cedar Rock Baptist Church, Paul Parson, Lee Harris, George Fennell, Ben Holcombe, Grady Hogsed, Tom Duncan, Leroy Hammett, Jesse McCombs, Carl Berryhill, Ernest Robinson, Bill Gwinn and Bill Freeman. The body is at Robinson Funeral Home and will be taken to the home at 4 p.m. Thursday and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday.
