Description	:	Robert J. Howard, 72, Hiawatha, died unexpectedly December 27, 1988, at his home. He was born August 22, 1916, on a farm north of Hiawatha, the son of Roy E. and Bertha Peckinpaugh Howard. He graduated from Hiawatha High School and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he had served as a trustee, Masonic Lodge No. 35 AF&AM, and BPOE #1741 Elks Lodge, all of Hiawatha. He farmed north of Hiawatha for 41 years until retiring several years... Read More	Robert J. Howard, 72, Hiawatha, died unexpectedly December 27, 1988, at his home. He was born August 22, 1916, on a farm north of Hiawatha, the son of Roy E. and Bertha Peckinpaugh Howard. He graduated from Hiawatha High School and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he had served as a trustee, Masonic Lodge No. 35 AF&AM, and BPOE #1741 Elks Lodge, all of Hiawatha. He farmed north of Hiawatha for 41 years until retiring several years ago, moving to town in November 1987. Mr. Howard married Eloise Rice April 19, 1941, at the First Baptist Church parsonage at Hiawatha. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, John R. Howard of rural Hiawatha, two daughters, Mrs. F.E. (Janette P.) McFarland of Douglasville, Ga, and Mrs. Steve (Karen) Jurgensmeier of rural Hiawatha; a brother, Keith Howard of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Errol (Mabel) Turnage of Blackwell, and Mrs. Ivan (Margaret) Warren of rural Hiawatha; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Visitation is today and Thursday at Casselman-Meek Funeral Home in Hiawatha, where the family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 pm Thursday. Funeral will be at 10:30 am Friday at the church in Hiawatha with the Rev. Jerry Boaz officiating. Burial will be at Hiawatha Cemetery, with Masonic committal service conducted by Hiawatha Masonic Lodge No. 35 AF&AM.
