Early in life she accepted Christ, and united with 1st Baptist Church of Hiawatha. Her life has been one of consistent christian living, active in her church work, a faithful attendant upon its services, and a true worshiper. To Mrs. Howard, her religion meant life, fellowship with God, fullness of character, and service to others. Her contribution to service has linked her name into the history of the church, and to christian life of the community. It will go on in influence and power, with the increasing years. She will be deeply missed by her husband and children. She was always a faithful wife, companion to her husband, a loving, devoted, unselfish, untiring mother to her 6 splendid children, never happier than when ministering to their needs. Her happy, cheerful disposition endeared her to her numerous friends who will ever remember her deeds of loving kindness. By nature she was sweet, gentle, kind, thoughtful, and loyal. Mrs. Howard's life has been made up of fruitful, busy years, years of service and of growth. She gave to the world more than she took. Her rest is well earned. Mrs. Howard was a patient sufferer during her short illness, very few knowing of her sickness until the news of her untimely death shocked her many friends on Monday morning. Besides her husband and children, those who grieve her departure are 3 sisters - Mrs. Cora Veach of Ottawa, Kansas; Mrs Emma Berry of Joes, Colorado, Mrs. Newton Reynolds, of Hiawatha - 1 brother - Humphrey Peckinpaugh of Ottawa, Kansas; together with many nieces, nephews, and a host of sorrowing friends. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Baptist Church, her former pastor, Rev. A.E. Martin, of Kansas City, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. J.P. Blackledge. By her request Mrs. Lucien Sterns sang "One Sweetly Solemn Thought", her favorite hymn, "Sometime, Somewhere", accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Allen. Body bearers were Conrad Rice, Jake Zimmers, Corwin Fisher, Irvin Dannenberg, Hassen Derrick, and Guy Martin. Burial was in the Hiawatha Cemetery.
