Wade, 72, 989 West Mill Street, Danville, who served as the first judge of Hendricks County Superior Court, died Friday January 23 in Hendricks County Hospital. He was a native of Mooresville and since 1965 until his death, he was assistant attorney general of Indiana and was also an attorney for Home Owners Loan Corporation of Morgan County. Mr. Wade was appointed judge of Hendricks County Superior Court by Indiana Governor Matthew Welch in 1963 when it was first established and served that post until 1964. He was also the first superior court judge in Morgan County, serving from 1961 to 1963. He was Morgan County prosecuting attorney from 1931 to 1937, a Martinsville City judge from 1952 to 1961 and was director of the department of safety responsibility and driver improvement for the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles in 1963. He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1923 and from Butler Indiana Law School in 1928. He was a member of the Danville Christian Church, past master of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge, past patron of the Eastern Star and member of the Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife, Irma Wade of Danville; his mother, Alice Wade of Danville; a son, Robert J. Wade Jr of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Alice Duvall of Utica, Michigan; and six grandchildren. Services were Tuesday January 27 at Carlisle and Son Chapel, Mooresville. Rev Joe Stump officiated. Burial was in the Mooresville Cemetery. Notes from the Mooresville Times obituary: A son, Sammy, died in infancy. He was buried in Wade family plot, Mooresville Cemetery. Robert died of an apparent heart attack at home [which conflicts with the Brownsburg obituary which indicates he died in the hospital]. He moved from Mooresville to Danville 13 years ago. He held many positions in the legal community.
