Joseph was the son of John Feld and Mary Schonauer.
Feb 26, 1925 - Carroll Times - Joe Feld is 80 years of age, and he has had a lot of experiences that few of us of today would want to endure. He was born on the 3rd day of July 1845, in Germany and came to America in the spring of 1867. When he landed on American soil he made a survey of his resources and found that he had exactly 20 cents on his person. This he spent while looking for a job but a job he landed and went to work.
He received $9 per month for his first labor in this country, and he continued to work for others until the year 1876, when, in February of that year, he was united in marriage at Mendoato, Illinois, to Catheren Kuempel, and almost mmediately thereafter he and his wife came to the prairies of Iowa, and in 1873 purchased a 160-acre tract of land here. In 1876 he was a candidate for trustee against a strong republican majority, and was elected to that office, and he held that or some other office in Grant townshlp almost continually until 1904, when he erected his present home in the Fourth ward and moved to Carroll.
To Mr. and Mrs. Feld six children were born, four boys and two girls. They also have 18 grandchildren. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on Sunday, February 15, surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
Carroll Times Feb 18, 1926 - Golden Wedding Aniversary - Mr & Mrs Joseph Feld had the pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary Monday Feb 15, when all their children & grandchildren were with them & made the day a very enjoyable one.
From early morning until late in the evening their hospitable home resounded with laughs and merriment. To add to the pleasure of the day the Fessler quintet called and rendered several selections. In the evening John Bernholtz brought over his accordian. When the floors were cleared, the light steps of the dancers brought joy to the parents, Mr & Mrs Feld.
Mr Feld was born in Germany July 3, 1845 and came to America in 1867. When he arrived he had but 20 cents in his pockets but landed a job and went to work. He worked in Illinois until 1872 when he came to the Iowa prairies and purchased the 160 acre farm in Grant township which he still owns.
Mrs Feld was formerly Catherine Kuempel before her marriage and was born Sept 5, 1850 at Troy Grove, Illinois. Her marriage to Mr Feld took place at Troy Grove Feb 15, 1876.
They lived on the farm in Grant township where Mr Feld continously held some township office from 1876 until 1904 when he moved to Carroll to his present home in the fourth ward. He built the house the year before he retired from the farm.
Mr & Mrs Feld have the pleasure of seeing their family of four sons and two daughters grow to become splendid men & women of the community. The children are William Feld, J J Feld, H J Feld, Ed Feld, Mrs John Bedford, and Anna Feld, all of Carroll. Mr & Mrs Feld also have 19 grandchildren - 5 girls & 14 boys. |
