Description	:	Robert L. Pettit, 79, of Centerville died Sept. 6, 2002, at his home in Centerville. He was born to William B. and Vey (Downing) Pettit near Douds on Jan. 23, 1923. He attended the Ottumwa public schools. He worked for several years as a welder at John Deere Ottumwa Works. In 1959, he moved to Centerville and purchased the Cook Furnace Co. and later named it Pettit Plumbing & Heating. He retired from his work in 1987. Pettit, 79, of Centerville died Sept. 6, 2002, at his home in Centerville. He was born to William B. and Vey (Downing) Pettit near Douds on Jan. 23, 1923. He attended the Ottumwa public schools. Pettit of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, John Pettit of Centerville and Craig Pettit of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Twila Rupe of Aledo, Ill., and LaVona Blucher of Burlington, and four brothers, Audrel of Sarasota, Fla., Gerald Pettit of Sonora, Calif., Clair Pettit and Mel Pettit of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Neil Pettit; and brothers, Royce, Dick, Leland, Lowell, Paul and Oramel Pettit. Services for Robert L. Pettit was Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, IA. Officiating, Rev. Tery Chapman. Organist, Rose Mary Smith. Soioists, Larry & Rose Mary Smith. Music, "What A Day" and "Victory in Jesus". Burial in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa. Visitation was from 1-8 pm at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moravia Church of the Nazarene. Rose Lawn Garden Lot 93 Grave 3.
