He died February 3, 1999 at his home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He attended a country school in Gosper County through the eighth grade and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1942. He moved to California in the fall of 1942 and worked in a sheet metal plant until entering the Army on April 20, 1943. He died February 3, 1999 at his home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He attended a country school in Gosper County through the eighth grade and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1942. He moved to California in the fall of 1942 and worked in a sheet metal plant until entering the Army on April 20, 1943. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater from December 14, 1943 to January 16, 1946, serving in a tank battalion, attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. He was discharged on January 22, 1946. He returned to Arapahoe and worked for L.W. Nott as a motor patrol operator, building terraces. Later, a partnership was formed with Nott-Snyder- Wendland [NSW] which continued for 25 years doing dirt construction. He started working for Gosper County in 1972 as a motor patrol operator until 1981 when he was appointed County Highway Superintendent, a position he held until his retirement in January 1992. He married Patricia A. Heiser of Lincoln, Nebraska on January 21, 1956. To this union five sons, Bill, Bob, Mike, Matt and Doug were born. He served on the Arapahoe School Board for 15 years and was a member of the Arapahoe Lions Club. He was a charter member of the Arapahoe V.F.W. Post 5753. He was a life-long member of St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska. Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia; his sons and daughters-in-law: Bill and Jill of Arapahoe, Bob and Carla of Yutan, Mike and Shelley of Edison, Matt of Los Osos, California, and Doug and Christine of Arapahoe; grandchildren: Stacy Snyder, Rick, Caleb and Hannah Snyder, Sarah and Brianna Snyder and Adam and Grace Snyder, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Doris Snyder of Arapahoe, sisters, Margaret Johnston of Naples, Florida, and Marion [Mick] Hanson and husband, John, of San Diego, California; sister-in-law, Jean Heiser of Lincoln and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barb and Bob Butts, also of Lincoln; nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends Preceding him in death were his parents, Hervey and Kathryn; sister: Mary Jane Lawson, and two brothers-in-law, Robert Lawson and Ned Johnston. Rosary was held on Friday, February 5, 1999, at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 6, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe with Fr. Melvin Rempe officiating. Music was congregational hymns with Linda Schaben as organist. Pallbearers were Marvin Monter, Greg Chambers, Rick Gennrich, Harlan Gydesen, Randy Schutz, Dave Mak, Scot Schutz and Mike Schutz. Honorary pallbearers were Don Foss, Glen Monter, Verlouis Forster, Don Adams, Herb Wendland, Wayne Nott and Raleigh Nott. Interment with military honors was in the Arapahoe Cemetery with Williamson- Wenburg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Arapahoe-Holbrook Lions Club Scholarship and Tri-Valley Hospice. He was loved and respected by his family and friends.
