Description	:	Robert Milton Finley was born April 14, 1836, at Decatur, Illinois. When he was three years old the family moved to Stark County Illinois, where he lived until the fall of 1870, at which time he came to Brown County, Kansas. He settled on a farm 12 miles northeast of Hiawatha, where he resided until the fall of 1896. At this time he moved to Hiawatha, where he has lived until his death. When he was three years old the family moved to Stark County Illinois, where he lived until the fall of 1870, at which time he came to Brown County, Kansas. He settled on a farm 12 miles northeast of Hiawatha, where he resided until the fall of 1896. At this time he moved to Hiawatha, where he has lived until his death. Robert married Mary Ann Humm January 2, 1862. To this union six children were born, one son dying in infancy. The remaining children are as follows: C.M. Finley, of Troy, Kansas; Cora M. Finley of Hiawatha; Mrs C.G. Carothers, of Peabody, Kansas; E.C. Finley of Kansas City, Missouri; C.K. Finley, of Hiawatha. In 1863 Mr. Finley, together with his wife, united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Toulon, Illinois. Mr. Finley passed away at 4:30 am Thursday, November 10, 1927, aged 91 years 6 months 26 days. For several years he had been in failing health and for a long time was confined to his home. He was honest and upright in his dealings with mankind, commanded the love and respect of those who knew him. He believed in God and His church, and for a long time had been a liberal contributor to the church. Thus passes from our midst a loving father, a noble Christian and a truly Christian gentleman. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the home, conducted by Rev. G.R. Lawellin. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Findley Graham, Mrs. Coral Copeland, C.A. Harpster, and Elmer Hanson, accompanied by Mrs. H.C. Bain at the Piano, sang "Home of the Soul", "Shall We Gather at the River", and "Abide with Me". The body bearers were C.A. McCoy, H.C. Wheeler, Herb Davis, Si Walters, Steve Steeley, and Frank Gregg. Burial was made in Mount Hope Cemetery beside his wife, who died about 11 years ago.
