Obituary from a newspaper: PARTICULARS ON DEATH OF RAY JENNINGS Ray Jennings, son of Mrs. Mary Jennings of Wetmore, whose body reached here Monday from Prescott, Arizona, was buried in New Hope Cemetery at Wetmore this afternoon. The particulars in connection with the untimely death of the young man are pathetic. For six years he had been employed as brakeman on the Santa Fe branch line between Ashfork and Prescott, Arizona. On Sunday, October 12, Mr. Jennings and the conductor of the crew had matched their skill in target shooting with a .45 Colts revolver. The honors were even and they agreed to shoot off the tie later. The next afternoon at 3 o'clock, Jennings and the conductor were in the caboose when the other brakeman entered and picking up the revolver, which was lying on a table, peered into the muzzle and remarked that it was not loaded. He was in the act of laying it down when the trigger is thought to have caught in his clothing and discharged. The bullet struck Jennings and entered his body at the groin, penetrating the intestines and coming out the opposite side. The injured man was rushed to a hospital at Prescott, a distance of 57 miles, and was operated upon at 7 p.m. the same evening. His condition was satisfactory for a time, but on Thursday, October 16, he developed peritonitis and died at 11 a. m. Mr. Jennings was extremely popular with all who knew him, both in Arizona, and this section of Colorado, where he was born and reared, and deep sympathy is extended to his family in their sorrow. Mr. Jennings is survived by his wife and three children, one daughter aged 7, a daughter 4 and a son 3.
