Botkin of Doe Hill (Lynn Rock) to unusually so. On Christmas Eve, while hunting rabbits with two other boys, about two miles from his home, his gun slipped from his hands and fell down the steep hillside. The other boys Denver Simmons and Glen Botkin secured aid and Dr. Stover just as quickly as possible and carried him to the doctors car and he lived until they had gotten him home. He knew from the first that his wound was fatal and was conscious to the last but tried to comfort and cheer his loved ones even then. Robert Vaiden Botkin was born November 30, 1911, died December 24, 1927 aged 16 years, 24 days. He was a regular attendant upon his Sunday school work and was especially beloved in the community and by his neighbors. He was bright and active, and his last act before going to hunt was to lend a helping hand in his neighbor’s home so his boy friend would have time to go hunting with him. It will be remembered by many that this home was broken by the passing of the mother when Vaiden was three months old, and that he was cared for by his father, two brothers and four aged great aunts who still survive. We cannot now understand why a bright promising lad the sunshine and hope of the home should thus be cut down in his youth. He is survived by his father Robert T. Botkin, and two brothers, Bruce of Lone Fountain, Augusta Co. and Roy at home and numerous other relatives. The funeral was conducted from the home Monday Dec. 26, at 11 o’clock by his pastor, Rev. Abraham Thomas and he was laid to rest in the family burying ground. His body was tenderly borne to the grave by his boy friends, namely: two cousins, Mason and Clarence Botkin of Augusta Co., another cousin, Glen Botkin of Doe Hill, and three friends, John and Ralph Armstrong, and Harry Taliaferro of Augusta. The flower girls were, Mabel and Edith Botkin, cousins, and four neighbor girls. Pansy and Cora Varner, Mary Smith and Nora Simmons.
