Ruhs, 42 years of age, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at his home in Anchorage as the result of a heart attack. Robert was born on Oct. 12, 1972, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Ronald Edward and Diana Rae (Hays) Ruhs. Robert attended grade school in Alma, Neb. In 1987, his family moved to Anchorage, where he attended and graduated from Bartlett High School. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He developed a talent for leather craft and carving teaching classes at the local leather store. His prized possession was a collection of PEZ dispensers that took up a large portion of a wall in his home. You could readily pick out his truck due to the "PEZMAN" license plate. A phrase that comes up repeatedly is "big hearted." Everyone who knew him knew a man that was quick with a smile and ready to be there for them. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ron and Diana Ruhs; and grandparents, Melvin and Vernetta (Trout) Ruhs and Harold and Roberta (Jarvis) Hays. He leaves to mourn his passing: one brother, Ron Ruhs and his wife, Bobbie of Blair, Neb.; one sister, Tami Ruhs of Anchorage, Alaska; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Graveside services for Robert W. Ruhs will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Neb., with Pastor Jane Blum officiating. Visitation will held prior to the graveside services on Monday, June 22, 2015, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bauer-Torrey and Mach Funeral Home in Alma. At 11 a.m. there will be a time for group remembrance and stories. A celebration of life will take place in Anchorage, Alaska, at a future date. A memorial has been established in Robert's honor at www.gofundme.com. The Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma is in charge of the arrangements.
