In 1866 the family moved on westward locating on a farm near Eddyville, Iowa. Here he was reared to manhood. Having the ambition and desire of further venture, he came on west in 1883, and located on a farm in Nuckolls county (sic), north west of Nelson, which has since been his home. In 1885 he was united in marriage with Adessa Norwood and to this union seven children were born: Forest who preceded him in death three years ago; Leonard, now residing in Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Annie Snider of Courtland, Kansas; Thomas of First View, Colo.; Mrs. Nellie Kauffman of Nelson; Henry who resides in Canada, and Laura at home. For the last few years he had been in failing health, much of the time unable to leave his bed, but through all his sickness and suffering he was very patient. All that loving hands could do, was done, but to no avail and death relieved his suffering Sunday morning, September 27, 1925, when he had reached the age of 64 years, 1 month and 18 days. There are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and kind father, the widow and children; also thirteen-grand children; one brother Wm. Blackwood of Nelson, one sister Annie Gallagher of Eddyville, Iowa, and a number of nephews and nieces. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, conducted by W.R. Arnold of the Christian church, of which deceased was a member.
