Description	:	Rodney Eugene “Rod” Metzger, 66 years of age, of Alma, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at his home. Rod was born on July 9, 1952 in Alma the third of four children to Bruce and Cleora (Secrest) Metzger. Rod attended Alma High School and graduated with the class of 1970. Following his education, he attended classes in Chicago, Illinois, and returned to Franklin, Nebraska and began working at Davison Jewelry. Read More	Rodney Eugene “Rod” Metzger, 66 years of age, of Alma, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at his home. Rod was born on July 9, 1952 in Alma the third of four children to Bruce and Cleora (Secrest) Metzger. Rod attended Alma High School and graduated with the class of 1970. Following his education, he attended classes in Chicago, Illinois, and returned to Franklin, Nebraska and began working at Davison Jewelry. Rod was inducted into the United States Army and was proud to have served his country. He was honorably discharged, following his service. On October 16, 1980, Rod was united in marriage to Theresa Whetstine, and the couple was blessed with two daughters: Becky and Kali. The family made their home in Alma. Rod was proud to be a fourth-generation plumber, with the family business. He began working with his father and grandfather at a young age. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and football; riding motorcycles; working on clocks; attending the events of his grandchildren; visiting with friends at “coffee hour”; and his service as a County Supervisor. Rod was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Stephen Metzger in infancy; and John Metzger; uncles: Bob Metzger and his wife, Gloria and Roger Metzger. He leaves to celebrate his life; his children: Becky Wolfe and her husband, Brad of Alma; Kali Schoff and her husband, Kyle of Holdrege; five grandchildren: Alexis and Madison Wolfe of Alma; Cael and Kash Schoff and Kamden Metzger all of Holdrege; one sister, Pam Metzger of Alma; sister-in-law, Katherine Metzger of Lexington, Nebraska; close friend, Theresa Metzger of Alma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services for Rodney E. Metzger were held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Alma United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska with Reverend Jim Bendorf officiating. Interment was held in the Alma Cemetery following the services with Military Honors provided by the Faye Cady American Legion Post #118 in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. The Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma was in charge of the arrangements.
