Vaughn, for many years a resident of Unadilla and well known to the older residents, but who has been making his home with his daughter in Oklahoma for the past two years, died, in that state and his remains were brot to Unadilla Thursday of this week for interment and the funeral held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon and his body interred beside the remains of his wife who passed away several years ago. 2-29-1924, The Otoe Union: Rudolphus J., the oldest son of Thomas H. and Sarah Jane (Cory) Vaughn, was born near Kane, Green County, Illinois, June 8, 1837 and died February 18, 1924, at the home of his only surviving child, Mrs. Cora Hull, at Norman, Oklahoma. At the age of twelve years he moved with his parents to near Washburn, Ill., where his father took up a piece of government land and at this place grew up to manhood. In 1853, he united with the Baptist church and has ever since lived a sincere Christian life. In 1859 he was united in marriage with Miss Annette Sweet who died in Unadilla to which place they had moved in 1882, March 26, 1900. To this union two children were born, one of whom, a son, Alva B. died when about 40 years of age, the other, Mrs. Cora Hull of Oklahoma surviving. In 1904 he was again married to Mrs. Malinda Adkins who died in Oklahoma in 1912. Besides his daughter he is survived by two brothers, Charles E. and Sumner T., of Guide Rock, Nebraska. Two sisters, Mrs. Julia Vaughn Mayes and Mrs. Amy Vaughn Davison died near Lincoln near Lincoln several years since and one brother, Russell W. Vaughn died near Guide Rock in July 1922. Mr. Vaughn was veteran of the civil war having seen honorable service. He was also a member of Otoe Lodge No. 51 I.O.O.F. at Syracuse He was of a kindly, quiet life hidden with good deeds, cheerful companionship and friendliness toward his fellow man and he was accordingly held in isteem and honored by friend and neighbor.
