He was born on Jan. 8, 1961, at Beatrice and attended Mount Olive Country School of rural Beatrice. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1979. He then started farming with his grandpa, dad and brother. He was married to Annette Pella on Feb. 26, 1982, at the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice. He was a former member of the First Christian Church (DOC) of Beatrice, where he had been baptized and confirmed. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice, where he had served as an usher. He was a member of the 3G's 4-H Club, a 4-H leader, and also enjoyed hunting, boating and waterskiing. He enjoyed teaching youth by coaching baseball, softball and the Beatrice girl's basketball club. He had also been involved with team roping and racing at the Beatrice Speedway. Survivors include his wife, Annette of Beatrice; two daughters, Holly Folkerts and husband Aaron and Hanah Barnard, all of Beatrice; one son, Kasey Barnard and fiancée Sara Marker of Beatrice; one grandson, Karsen Folkerts; his parents, Larry and Carolyn Barnard of Beatrice; brother, Monty Barnard and wife Kathy of Beatrice; grandparents, Faye Jones of Beatrice, Regina Pella of Tecumseh; his parents-in-law, Bob and Dorcas Pella of Beatrice; two sisters-in-law, Mary Oltean and husband Bob of St. Joseph, Ill., and Sherry Zimmerman of Beatrice; two nieces, Lauren and Olivia; three nephews, Jacob, Rylee and Eli; two uncles, Ron Jones and wife Sandi and Don Jones, all of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jill Ann, who died in 1982; grandparents, Donald Jones, Roy and Marjette Barnard, Ernest Pella, Norman and Mary Lacey. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice with the Rev. Cale Lang officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. Closed casket visitation will be at the Fox Funeral Home until 9 p.m. Thursday evening and at the church one hour preceding the services on Friday. A family prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall of the church. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Rick and Michele Blum and Jim and Janet Lancaster in charge. A guest book for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at www.foxfuneralhome.net. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
