Description	:	Roger W. Owens, 75, 116 E. 14th St N., a lifelong resident of Jasper County and Newton, died of cancer Saturday evening, June 11, at the Skiff Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reese Chapel. The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, retired Lutheran minister, will conduct services. Burial will be in Colfax Highland Cemetery with military graveside rites. Public Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials to Life Banc, where his son, Terry received a heart transplant, or Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted. Survivors are his wife, Helen; two sons, Terry of Newton and Jeff of Ankeny; three daughters, Cindy Deeter of Cleveland, Ohio, Janice Wallace of Colfax and Sandra Owens of Keensburg, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Harold of Ashville, Pa., Ralph of Mingo and Bob of Newton. Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lillian Smith Owens, and a sister, Maxine Zachary. Mr. Owens, who served in the Third Infantry Division during World War II was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, Newton American Legion Post 111, a 25-year member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, Newton Masonic Lodge no 59 AF and AM and Elks Lodge No. 1270. A pipefitter at the Maytag Co., for 31 years, retiring in 1976, he was a longtime member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997. The son of Robert R. and Greta Emery Owens, he was born Dec. 31, 1918 at Valeria and was a 1937 graduate of Mingo Community High School. After the death of his first wife, he was married to Helen Hoffert Rose Oct. 1, 1966 in Newton. Mr. Owens resided in Colfax before moving to Newton after his discharge from the army.
