Read More	~~* In Memory of Jim ~~* Jim Strotman was born on January 24, 1926, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Leslie William and Amanda Marie (Miller) Strotman. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Jim attended Irving Elementary School in Waverly and graduated from Waverly High School in 1944. Jim was very active in track, football and basketball, where his team placed 3rd in state in 1943 and was state champions in 1944. Following his schooling, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during WWII. Jim was sent to the University of Dubuque, then the University of Wisconsin for engineering courses and he also participated in sports in both places. On October 21, 1945, Jim was united in marriage to his seventh grade sweetheart, Jacqueline Joyce " Jackie" Holley in Waverly, Iowa. Following his discharge on July 10, 1946, Jim returned home and went to work for Bergen Lumber Company, taking over management after his father retired in 1957. In 1969, Jim and Jackie purchased the lumberyard and changed the name to Strotman Building Center. Jim was very proud of his family business and was always a part of what was going on at the yard. Jim was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, was an active Rotarian since high school, had served on the Waverly Chamber Board, was a member of the Amvets Post #79, and enjoyed supporting Wartburg College and anything else good for Waverly. Jim's lifelong passion was horses. He especially enjoyed his gentle Belgians, hitching for many occasions. His love of horses came from his mother and Uncle Gilbert Miller with whom he spent many happy summers, helping him farm with horses. Romaine W. "Jim" Strotman, 86, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 8, 2012, with his family at his side, at the Waverly Health Center, Waverly, Iowa, of natural causes. He and Jackie had formerly resided at 1210 Country Meadows Dr., in Waverly, IA, 50677. Jim is survived by his loving wife of over 66 years, Jackie Strotman of Waverly; his four children and their spouses, Steven (Judy) Strotman of Waverly, Kristine (Doug) Meinhard of Ames, Debra (Jim) Miller of Cedar Rapids, James "Fred" (Judith – C.J.) Strotman of Shell Rock; 6 grandchildren, Ben (Athena) Strotman, Joe (Angie) Strotman, Mandy (Chad) Dummermuth, Troy (Janet) Meinhard, Matthew (Shelly) Meinhard, Sara (Chris Leopold) Meinhard; 15 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexa, Bradley, Katie Jo, and Jackie Strotman, Emma, Audrey, and Conner Dummermuth, Romaine (Sam), Eli, Kate, McKenna and Tate Meinhard, Ellie and Thomas Leopold; two sisters, Muriel Nasby of Tucson, Arizona, Betty Arns of Waverly; one brother, Bruce Strotman of Rockwall, Texas. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley (Red) Strotman, Dale Strotman; and four sisters, Margaret Beebe, Mary Warrior, Shirley Clatterbaugh, and Beverly Dietrich. Public visitation: Friday, February 10 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for an hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Funeral service: Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Rev. Deborah Coble Wise officiating. Burial: Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, with military graveside honors conducted by the Waverly Amvets Post #79. Memorials: Trinity United Methodist Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
