Read More	Ronald Alan Smoke passed away peacefully January 16, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 90 surrounded by his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cathy Smoke. Ron was born June 22, 1927 in Enumclaw, the second of four siblings, to Joseph and Vera (Moak) Smoke. He was raised on the family dairy farm in Enumclaw and was attending Enumclaw High School when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 17. A year later and a day before he had to report to active duty at Fort Lewis, he married Valera L. Pedersen in Auburn. In 1946, after basic and advanced training, he was shipped off to Europe on a troop ship to Europe with a final destination of Germany. He was utilized as a clerk processing German POW's. In 1947, Sgt. Smoke was discharged and returned to Enumclaw. Ron and Val bought a home in Enumclaw and he was employed as a draftsman for the Wilkeson Sandstone Quarry. Ron joined the Air Corp because he wanted to be a pilot but the slots available at the time were scarce. He fulfilled his dream in 1947, obtaining a student pilot's license in May. His flight log shows he flew a Piper J3 on numerous training flights out of Enumclaw Municipal Airport. He completed his first solo flight from Enumclaw to Bellevue, Kelso, Olympia and back to Enumclaw in July of that year. All three of their children were born during this period. The family moved to Lake Hills in Bellevue, WA in 1956 and Ron went to work for Terrazzo & Stone Supply in Seattle. Over the years he also worked for Mutual Materials, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Olympian Stone and Lafarge. Ron had a special talent in many facets of home construction. He designed and built a new recreation room for the Lake Hills home which included applying his masonry skills to build a brick wall and fireplace. He also built a sandstone planter and slate floor for the bathroom. After completing his last project, a second bathroom, Ron and Val sold the Lake hills home in 1977 and moved to the Beaver Lake area on the Issaquah plateau. They sold the Issaquah home and Ron and Val purchased a lot on the Redmond Plateau, and he managed the construction of a home that he built to sell. After that, he bought a lot on Tolt Hill in Carnation and working with a purchased set of architectural plans that he modified to his liking, he managed the entire project. Ron and Val lived there until 1992 when he retired and they sold it and moved back to Enumclaw. After Val's death in 1999, Ron sold the Enumclaw home and bought a home in Yuma, AZ where he enjoyed golfing, visiting and hosting his friends in Yuma as well as friends and family visiting from out of town. Ron also enjoyed bowling, fishing and traveling. He traveled to Europe and went on a Caribbean cruise with Val. He also went on many road trips to the “Old West” sites with son Steve. Survivors include: sons Michael Smoke of Federal Way, Gary Smoke of Taiwan, Steve Smoke and his wife Cathy; grandchildren: Melissa Anderson, Michael Fisher, Kurtis Smoke and Kelly Smoke and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are: cousins Marlene Smith (nee Smoke) and her sister Sallie Androsko: sisters-in-law by marriage: Jeanne Fisher of Sequim and Sudie Pedersen of Phoenix. Besides his wife Val and his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers; William and Joseph Smoke and sister Shirley Smoke. Private services will be conducted with family only at Enumclaw Memorial Cemetery.
