Description	:	Valera was born December 12, 1927 to Nels M. and Lillie L. Pedersen (nee Peterson) in Puyallup. WA. She graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1946 and was a Majorette in the marching band and editor of the school newspaper. She married Ronald Smoke on September 7, 1945 in Auburn, Washington at the start of her senior year. She graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1946 and was a Majorette in the marching band and editor of the school newspaper. She married Ronald Smoke on September 7, 1945 in Auburn, Washington at the start of her senior year. Ronald had enlisted in the US Army a year earlier and reported for active duty shortly after the end of World War II, forgoing his senior year at Enumclaw H.S. Val moved in with her in-laws, Joseph and Vera Smoke and lived there during her senior year. After a miscarriage and then a stillborn birth, Ron and Val had three sons, Michael, Gary and Steven. The family lived in Enumclaw until February, 1956 when they moved to Bellevue (Lake Hills). They sold the Bellevue home and moved to Beaver Lake, Issaquah, WA. They lived there several years, followed by a short time in South Issaquah and then to a home that Ron had built on Tolt Hill in Carnation, WA. They moved back to Enumclaw in the 1990's and lived there until she passed away with her family by her bedside. She was President of "The Flower Club", a group of friends, in which she organized coffees and luncheons for the members. She enjoyed traveling and toured Honk Kong, Macau, Europe twice, (once with her Mother, Lillie), and several trips to the Caribbean. Val worked at McKinstry Plumbing in Bellevue and Holaday-Parks in Seattle and also as a real estate agent. Her parents preceded her in death, surviving was her husband Ron and children, Mike, Gary and Steve Smoke, Granddaughters Melissa Brooke, Michael Erin and Kelly Megan Smoke and Grandson Kurtis LiPing Smoke. Also surviving was her only sibling, Nels Pedersen, Jr., (Sudie) and nephews Lynden and Lane Pedersen.
