Description	:	Ronald Carl Moen was born January 12, 1955, in Albany, Oregon, to Melvin and Lila Moen. By the age of two he'd managed to make his father a firm believer that the city was no place to raise a son. So the business was sold, the family packed up, and a return to the farm in South Dakota was made. By the age of two he'd managed to make his father a firm believer that the city was no place to raise a son. So the business was sold, the family packed up, and a return to the farm in South Dakota was made. There Ron delighted in wheels of every sort - from trikes to bikes to bikes with motors, and finally to big John Deere tractors, grain trucks and combines. Contrary to his of the the outdoors, he attended Summit Independent School, graduating in 1973, then SDSU receiving an associate degree in agriculture. He returned to help his father farm and pursued a couple more challenges - a pilot's license and that demon, golf. He married Valorie Binde on January 10, 1976, and the fascination with farming and wheels continued. Before long, he mastered the eighteen-wheelers, and they established Moen Trucking as a sideline to fill the hours he wasn't farming. In 1979, when Melvin retired, Ron took over the family farm raising both cattle and grain. About three years ago, he surrendered to the steady paycheck that was not dependent on "wind and rain and weather' and found a career he truly enjoyed _ introducing others to the big wheels made by Caterpillar. From a base in Omaha, Nebraska, he traveled to farm country all over the United States and Canada, even in Europe and Australia. It was while returning from a Texas convention with another Caterpillar representative and friend, that their car hit black ice and rolled. Ron was thrown from the vehicle and died instantly. He is survived by his son, Eric, and daughter, Kristen, of Summit; his mother, Lila Moen, of Webster; and one sister, Linda Hanson, of Billings, Montana; a niece and nephew; and many cousins.
