Born November 25, 1934, in Westside, Iowa, Ronald was the son of Edward and Dorothy (Pacholke) Schluter. He grew up and attended school in Ida Grove, graduating in 1953. He served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, for two years where he ran the PX on the base. Ronald married Mildred Foley on June 27, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. The couple had two children, Lon and Jan. Ronald worked in Ida Grove on Ralph Hilker's farm, Ed Jacob's TV shop, Co-op, managed the ready mix plant at United Builders, and finally as owner of Ron's Lounge until he retired. In his younger years, Ronald enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He was a long-time Iowa Hawkeye football season ticket holder and made many trips to Iowa City as well as bowl games to cheer on his beloved Hawkeyes. Ronald was also a die-hard Dale Earnhardt fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. Following retirement Ronald enjoyed keeping up his yard and garden and playing with his grandkids. Survivors include two children, Lon (Angie) Schluter of Ida Grove, and Jan (Dan) Martocci of Belvidere, IL; grandchildren, Taylor and Jacob Martocci, Jayde and Kylie Schluter, and Trey Bell. He is also survived by a sister, Marilyn (Walt) Sonksen of Avoca; a brother-in-law, Walter (Pat) Foley, Jr., of Bolivia, NC; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
