Description	:	Rosie Bell Allen, eldest daughter of John S. and Rebecca Ann (Osburn) Grooms was born January 24, 1879, at Burlington Jct., Missouri, and was called home on November 24, 1977, at the age of 98 years and 10 months. She came to the Sparks area in 1884 with her parents and 5 uncles and their families by means of 9 covered wagons. Read More	Rosie Bell Allen, eldest daughter of John S. and Rebecca Ann (Osburn) Grooms was born January 24, 1879, at Burlington Jct., Missouri, and was called home on November 24, 1977, at the age of 98 years and 10 months. She came to the Sparks area in 1884 with her parents and 5 uncles and their families by means of 9 covered wagons. She grew to womanhood in the Sparks area where she joined the Methodist Church as a young girl. Rosie was a life long member of the Sparks Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church of Valentine. As a young girl in the Sparks community Rosie developed her kind and gentle ways with people for which she will be so fondly remembered. On November 6, 1901, she was married to William A. Allen of Sparks. To this union three children were born, a son Merle, and two daughters, Nettie Bell Hagedorn and Pearl Retta Lawrence. Rosie and her husband, Billie, homesteaded southeast of Sparks where they lived until the passing of their son on October 10, 1935. After moving to Valentine in 1936 she was a very active member of the W.C.T.U. and W.S.C.S. spending many unselfish hours in service to others. She was also a member of the Cherry County Historical Society. During her 41 years in Valentine she befriended many people both young and old to whom she was known kindly as "Aunt Rosie" or "Grandma Allen." She lived alone after the death of her husband on September 16, 1947, until the age of 89 when she moved to Hansen's Nursing Home. She resided there until February 1973, when she moved to the loving home of her grandson Amos Hagedorn and family. She was being cared for by her daughter Pearl, and grandchildren when she was called to the place of everlasting peace. She was a good mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie, a son Merle; a daughter, Nettie, son-in-law, Charlie Hagedorn, a grandson, great granddaughter, mother, father, two brothers, Russell and James Edgar, and five sisters, Cora, an infant, Nellie, Effie Tayler, and Gladys Meredith. She is survived by one daughter Mrs. Pearl Lawrence, son-in-law Lloyd Lawrence of Sparks, brother Fred R. Grooms and two sisters Goldie Epke and Lottie Sims, Omaha; and 12 grandchildren, Cleo Hagedorn, North Platte; Ida Rose (Hagedorn) Shelbourn, Crookston; Dr. Clem Hagedorn, Boca Raton, Fla., Amos Hagedorn; Ilene (Hagedorn) Junod, Bertrand, Ne.; Charles (Junior) Hagedorn, Ontario, Ca.; Mary Hagedorn Blake, Crested Butte, Col; Louise Lawrence Boyd, Oakland, Ne.; LeRetta Lawrence Edwards, Johnstown, Ne.; Joe Lawrence, Sonoma, Ca.; Caroline Lawrence Graham, Rushville, Ne.; Dr. Willie Lawrence, Ainsworth, Ne., 31 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held November 28 at the Methodist Church with Interment in Sparks Cemetery.
