(Source: Thayer County, NE Marriage Records) ======================== The Hebron Journal (Hebron, NE), Thursday, October 26, 1933; pg. 2 Mrs. Long Dies at Bird City; Kansas Was Formerly Mrs. T. B. Harris of Chester A Bird City, Kansas, paper last week carried the following story of the death of Mrs. Rose Florence Long, better known to residents of Thayer County as Mrs. T. B. Harris--a former marriage. Mr. Harris was the first conductor on the Burlington here, serving in that capacity for a good many years. The story: This community was greatly shocked when the news spread that Mrs. Carl Long had passed away at her home in Bird City, shortly before noon Tuesday. It was known that she was ill for some time but nobody thought that it was serious. Mrs. Long was a good wife, mother and neighbor, and she will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved her. When the editor and his wife moved to Bird City some eight years ago she was the first one to give us the glad hand and to show us what real western hospitality was. Since then we have respected and admired her and our heart really aches because we have lost a good friend. Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow and the body then will be taken to Chester, Nebraska for burial. OBITUARY Rose Florence Long passed away at 12:00 o'clock noon Tuesday, October 17, at her home in Bird City. She had been failing in health for quite some time although her condition was not critical until the past three weeks. She was a native of Iowa, but moved with her parents to Chester, Nebr., where she was united in marriage to T. B. Harris. To this union there were born three children, two sons and one daughter: O. T. Harris of Lincoln, Nebraska, I. W. Harris of Toledo, Ohio and Mrs. Dencie Peck of Bird City. Mr. Harris passed away at Chester and she was then united in marriage to Mr. Carl Long, to which union there were four children born: Guy, Glen and Ross Long and Mrs. Irene Patterson, all of Bird City. Having lived here for the past fourteen years, she leaves a host of friends besides her husband, children and four grandchildren. Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday at the family home with Rev. C. I. Wallace in charge. Immediately following services, the funeral cortege will leave by auto for Chester, Nebraska where interment will be made in the family plot under the direction of Hutchison and Trickett.
