Description	:	OBIT: Rosalie Pautzke, 92, Ellensburg native and longtime resident of Santa Barbara, Calif., died Nov. 4, 2004, in Santa Barbara. She was born in Ellensburg on May 12, 1912, the last of 12 children of Jacob and Nora Cleman who were early pioneers of the Kittitas Valley. Her maternal grandfather, John P. Sharp, and her paternal uncle, John Cleman, both were members of the General Assembly of the House of Representatives when Washington achieved statehood in 1889. She was born in Ellensburg on May 12, 1912, the last of 12 children of Jacob and Nora Cleman who were early pioneers of the Kittitas Valley. Her maternal grandfather, John P. Sharp, and her paternal uncle, John Cleman, both were members of the General Assembly of the House of Representatives when Washington achieved statehood in 1889. Cleman Mountain, situated between Wenas Creek and Nile Creek in Selah, is named for her grandfather, Charles Augustine Cleman, one of the first settlers in the Yakima Valley and the man who introduced the raising of sheep to that region. A graduate of Ellensburg High School class of 1932 and the Metropolitan Business College in Seattle the following year, Rosalie worked for several years in the Kittitas County Assessor's Office before moving to California in 1956. After working a year as head billing clerk for Fischer and Chaislom Insurance in Fresno, Calif., she worked for two years in Bishop for Union Carbide. In 1959 she moved to Santa Barbara where she worked for the county auditor's office in the courthouse there eventually rising to the position of senior auditor before her retirement. Rosalie was preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence, Arthur, Edgar, Herbert, Ralph, Harold, Johnnie, Chester and Lawrence; sisters, Lela and Alice (Bilbie). She is survived by her son, Richard Pautzke of Santa Barbara; nephews, Donald Cleman of Ellensburg, John Cleman of Temple City, Calif., Thomas Cleman of Flagstaff, Ariz., and William Cleman of Brisbane, Australia; nieces, Harriet Burnham of Fresno, Calif., and JoAnn Adams of Lynnwood; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
