Toliver was born August 3, 1861 to D.R. and Sarah Margaret Toliver in Bristol township and passed away Friday at 12:30 p.m., March 16, 1951 in the Greene county hospital at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 13 days. "His boyhood days were spent in Bristol township. "He was united in marriage to Nellie Mae Kloss January 1, 1903. They lived on a farm near Jefferson for several years, later moving to Churdan where Ross engaged in the livery business. After moving to the farm for a while he returned to the livery and stock-buying business with his brother-in-law, William Kloss. In 1921 Mr. and Mrs. Toliver moved back to the farm, where he continued with the stock-buying and farming until his health prevented; moving back to Churdan in 1943 where they resided the rest of their married life. "To them were born two children, a daughter Helen, now Mrs. Gene Gardner, and a son Lloyd. "He leaves to mourn his two children; one daughter-in-law Yvonne Toliver; one son-in-law, Gene Gardner; four grandchildren, Joanne, Jeanne, Ronnie and Janice Toliver. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Emma Coombs of Madison, S.D., Mrs. Doll Honsen of Jefferson, Mrs. Mildred Ehrhardt of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Ruth Wood of Sheffield. "He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away four days previous to his death, an infant sister and a brother Walter, as well as his father and mother. "He was formerly a member of the Christian church in Farlin, later joining the First Baptist church in Churdan where he remained as a member until his death. He was a member of the Oddfellows lodge for a number of years and also served on the Churdan school board. "He was widely known throughout Greene county because of his lively interest in livestock."
