Funeral services for Mrs. Patten were held at 10 AM, Thursday, March 30, 2000, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, IA. Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiated. The organist was Marilyn Kriegel and special selections were "In The Garden," "Amazing Grace," and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." Rose Edith Triplett Patten, daughter of Monsuier Triplett and Florence Hess Triplett, was born April 8, 1901, on a farm near Brooklyn in Madison Township, Poweshiek County. Mrs. Patten received her education in a rural school in Madison Township and was a graduate of the Brooklyn High School. On February 2, 1921, she was married to Paul Patten at Newton, Iowa. They farmed in Madison Township until 1953 when they moved to Grinnell. Mr. Patten died in 1974. Mrs. Patten was an antique collector and dealer for many years. In September of 1994 she became a resident of Friendship Manor. Mrs. Patten was a member of Grinnell Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Pauline Brannian McElroy; and two sisters, Ruth Harrison and Blanche Holland. Survivors include two daughters and theirs husbands, Viola and Harold Behounek of Chelsea, Iowa and Gail and Raymond Vogt of Grinnell; one sister, Eva Lang of Glendale, California; nine grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; and seventeen great great grandchildren.
