He grew up and lived most of his life on the family farm southeast of Marathon. He attended the Marathon Consolidated School and graduated in 1923. He was united in marriage to Albertina Watkins. He is survived by his wife; a sister, Rena, of Marathon; and four children, Dorothy Friis of Seattle, Wash., Keith Garton of Grand Forks, N.D., Arlin Garton of Laurens and Rodney Watkins of Rembrandt.
