Description	:	Roy Frederick Kappel, 95, of Humboldt, Nebraska formerly of Elk Creek, Nebraska was born on August 4, 1917 to Charles and Ethel (Hoyer) Kappel on the family homestead at Saco, Montana. In 1921, the family moved to the Custer, Oklahoma area. Roy graduated from Arapaho High School in 1934. He then served in the Army/Air Force from 1941 to 1945. Roy was united in marriage to Ruby L. Read More	Roy Frederick Kappel, 95, of Humboldt, Nebraska formerly of Elk Creek, Nebraska was born on August 4, 1917 to Charles and Ethel (Hoyer) Kappel on the family homestead at Saco, Montana. In 1921, the family moved to the Custer, Oklahoma area. Roy graduated from Arapaho High School in 1934. He then served in the Army/Air Force from 1941 to 1945. Roy was united in marriage to Ruby L. Faulkner on December 21, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas. Roy worked for Douglas Aircraft and General Dynamics in Oklahoma. They were blessed with three sons: Roger, Ray, and Rex. In 1962, the family moved to the Tecumseh, Nebraska area where Roy worked at the Tecumseh missile site. They later moved to Elk Creek and Roy worked for Brinkman Brothers Chevrolet for 16 years. After retirement, he was paid to work at his hobby of blacksmithing and building wagons at Rock Creek Station by Beatrice, Nebraska during the summers. Roy enjoyed many hobbies and could make a tool or implement for just about anything. He enjoyed corresponding and attending reunions with the members he served with in the 5th Liaison Squadron. Roy also enjoyed meeting people as he participated in Civil War reenactments. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #8221 and a permanent member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening with Ruby and visiting people. Roy and Ruby moved to Colonial Acres Assisted Living in Humboldt in February of 2013. Roy passed away peacefully at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, having reached the age of ninety-five years, eleven months, and twenty-six days. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Edith, infant brother Freddie, step-sister Noweta Owen, and sister-in-law Betty Kappel. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Ruby Kappel of Humboldt, NE; sons: Roger Kappel and his wife Dollie of Lumberton, NC; Ray Kappel of Pawnee City, NE; Rex Kappel and his wife Sara of Humboldt, NE; grandchildren: Kim (Chris) Welch, Kristine (Matt) Miller, Jessica (Jon) Slottje, Britt Kappel, Erik Kappel and Kasey Kappel, great-grandchildren: Cooper Welch, Gus Freeman, Maddy Welch, and Connor Miller; brother Kelly D. Kappel of Clinton, OK; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2013, at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Roger Kappel officiating. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, with family greeting friends from 2-4 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to the time of the service at the mortuary. Interment will be at the Pawnee City Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2013 with full military Honors conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard and the Tracy Bates American Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek.
