He was born on June 29, 1921, at rural Adams and attended the Harnley Country School near Adams. He farmed with his dad near Adams until he was married to Maxine Haverkamp on Oct. 6, 1946, at Virginia. They lived in Adams, where he owned and operated Roy G. Behrens, 90, of Adams died at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams on Tuesday morning, March 27, 2012. He was born on June 29, 1921, at rural Adams and attended the Harnley Country School near Adams. He farmed with his dad near Adams until he was married to Maxine Haverkamp on Oct. 6, 1946, at Virginia. They lived in Adams, where he owned and operated Roy G. Behrens Construction until his retirement. He was a former member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church west of Sterling and was currently a member of the American Lutheran Church of Adams and was a past member of the church council. He was a member of the LICA and Aerie 531 Fraternal Order of Eagles of Beatrice. He enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in Arizona and Nevada. Survivors include his wife, N. Maxine Behrens of Adams; one son, Rex Behrens and wife Glenda of Hickman; one daughter, Roxie Agena and husband Larry of Adams; five grandchildren, Jenni Beebe and husband Craig, Terra Lenners and husband Matt, KayCee Moss and husband Kevin, all of Adams, Stephen Behrens of Bowling Green, Ky., and Evan Behrens of Lincoln; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold Behrens of Beatrice; two sisters, Bernice Boeve and husband Gerald of Tracy, Calif., and Elnore (Babe) Ruemelin and husband Lloyd of Adams; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ekke and Clara Mahler Behrens; son, Randy Behrens; two brothers, Urban and Alvin Behrens; two sisters, Florence Splichal and Leona Hale; parents-in-law, John and Susie Powell Haverkamp. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the American Lutheran Church of Adams with Pastor William Dreesen officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery of Adams. A family prayer service will be held 10 a.m. at the church on Saturday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Don and Christy Voboril in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 12 noon Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday, from 12 noon Thursday until 8 p.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home of Adams; and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday. Fox Funeral Home of Adams in charge of arrangements.
