Mr. Obaugh had devoted a lot of years in serving just about every family in this county and adjacent counties with his funeral business. A couple of people remarked to us that the funeral for Mr. Obaugh Sunday was probably the largest, from the standpoint of attendance, they could remember here, and we think that is a fitting tribute to the man. In these days when you hear so much of the high cost of funerals and caring for the deceased, Roy Obaugh consistently provided his necessary services reasonably and well. The Obaughs have long provided quality service and dignity to bereaved families, a service which Highlanders, as a whole, appreciate. We'll all miss Roy Obaugh. Highland Recorder November 3, 1966 ROY G. OBAUGH DIES SUDDENLY Roy Gilbert Obaugh, 77, of McDowell, died suddenly at about 7 p. m. Thursday, Oct 27. Death came shortly after he was admitted to Kings Daughters Hospital in Staunton. Mr. Obaugh, owner of Obaugh Funeral Home at McDowell since 1934, had been associated in the funeral director business since about 1930. In addition to his funeral business, he was also a cattle farmer. A son of the late John L. and Malinda Stone Obaugh, he was born in Pendleton County, W. Va. on March 30, 1889. He was twice married. His first wife, Myrtle Flesher Obaugh, died in 1955. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Claudine Knicely Obaugh; a son, William G. Obaugh of McDowell; a sister, Mrs. Bertie Judy, Moyers. W. Va.; a foster-daughter, Mrs. Nellie Malcolm, McDowell; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the McDowell Methodist Church by the Rev. John Kellington. Interment was in Headwaters Cemetery.
