Leap was born in Spring Hill, November 15, 1880, remaining with his parents until about two years of age, when he was adopted into the home of his uncle, C.B. Davidson, where he lived until his death, which occurred February 11, 1903. Roy, as he was familiarly known, was a general favorite, having kind ways and winsome attractions that seemed to gather around him such a best of friends that when the sad news of his death was announced a great solemnity appeared to settle over the entire community. Although the doctors had despaired of his life, yet, his friends were hopeful to the last, thinking Roy would again be restored to his friends, but a divine providence decreed otherwise. He passed away in the vigor and strength of his young manhood, without a stain upon his character or an enemy left behind. Sometimes, it is difficult to become reconciled to the taking away of such a beautiful life, yet, as "God moves in a mysterious way," wonderful things may result there from in transforming many from a life of sinfulness to that of righteousness, in striving to emulate the life of Roy Leap. His funeral sermon was preached in Spring Hill, by Rev. Lemmon, of Norwalk, his remains were laid away in the Webb Cemetery by the fraternity of Yeoman of which order he was a worthy member. # # # March 5, 1903 Indianola Herald Roy R. Leap was born in Warren County, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1880, and died at the home of his uncle, C.B. Davidson, with whom he had grown to manhood on Feb. 11, 1903, aged 22 years 2 months and 27 days. During his long illness covering a period of more than 9 months, suffering at times intensely—he patiently bore it all without a murmur—always greeting his friends with a cheerfulness remarkable for one in his condition. No better evidence in waiting while he passed to the great beyond at peace with his maker and with all men, than the evidence given by himself while in the last agonies of death, he raised his hand and turned his eyes toward heaven as he chanted that immortal hymn, "Take me as I am,"—being a part of the last words spoken by Roy Leap before his spirit took its everlasting flight. # # # Wed., Feb 11, 1903 Indianola Tribune Spring Hill - Roy Leap died from dropsy last Wednesday at the home of his uncle, Mr. Davidson, after a long illness of 9 months. # # # September 25, 1902 The Advocate-Tribune Indianola, Iowa Prole - Roy Leap seems to be some better at this writing. He is afflicted with dropsy and Bright's disease.
