Description	:	Ruby Marjorie Purdy was born at Old Kiron, Iowa, October 2,1915, the daughter of Rueben H. and Sadie Bergstrom Buller. She was raised there and was graduated from the Kiron High School with the class of 1933. Following high school she moved to Sioux City, returning in Kiron in 1935 where she was employed at the Kiron Drug Store for two years. Read More	Ruby Marjorie Purdy was born at Old Kiron, Iowa, October 2,1915, the daughter of Rueben H. and Sadie Bergstrom Buller. She was raised there and was graduated from the Kiron High School with the class of 1933. Following high school she moved to Sioux City, returning in Kiron in 1935 where she was employed at the Kiron Drug Store for two years. In August of 1937, Ruby was united in marriage with Howard Leslie Purdy, Sr. at the Crawford County Courthouse in Denison, Iowa. They made their home in Odebolt and their union was blessed with two children, Howard, Jr. and Midge Arlene. From 1945, until returning to Odebolt in 1955, the family resided at Carnarvon where Ruby was the switchboard operator and served as an assistant leader of the Viola Violet 4-H Club for five years. In 1956 the family moved to Kiron and Ruby was secretary for Purdy Plumbing until retiring in 1989. Mr. Purdy died in 1996 and Ruby continued to reside at her home in Kiron until moving to the Denison Care Center in November of 2005. In her spare time through the years Ruby enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, cooking, cake decorating and spending time with her family. She attended Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron. Ruby died Thursday morning at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 90 years, 7 months and 29 days. Including her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her son, Howard Leslie Purdy, Jr. and one brother, Seldon Buller. Those remaining to cherish her memory include one daughter, Midge Arlene Gaylor of Mason City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Andrew and Amy Gaylor of Olympia, Washington, Cynthia Gaylor of Las Flores, California, Patty Purdy and friend Byron Lyman of Dow City, Brenda and Kevin Grimes of Columbia, South Carolina, Steve and Ginger Purdy of Yankton, South Dakota and Jim and Cindy Purdy of Blue Springs, Missouri; 18 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2006, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Trish Underberg officiating. Music for the service was provided by soloist, Kathy Hunt, singing In The Garden and Amazing Grace with Margaret Ann Buller serving as organist. Honorary pallbearers included Andy Gaylor, Pat Purdy, Jim Purdy, Melvin Palmer and Bruce Champ. Pallbearers included Gerrit Dresselhuis, Jerry Buller, Mervin Buller, Byron Lyman, Ernest Tremblay and Doug Purdy. Interment was at the Kiron Cemetery in Kiron, Iowa. A memorial has been established to the Kiron Fire Department. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
