Description	:	Rudolph Adolph Poppe, son of P.F. Poppe and Dorothea Sorge Poppe, was born in Deshler, Nebr., on March 6, 1895. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Deshler. He received his education at St. John's Lutheran School, Chester, and was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church April 12, 1908. He was united in marriage to Clara Kuhnemund on Feb. 28, 1932. Read More	Rudolph Adolph Poppe, son of P.F. Poppe and Dorothea Sorge Poppe, was born in Deshler, Nebr., on March 6, 1895. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Deshler. He received his education at St. John's Lutheran School, Chester, and was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church April 12, 1908. He was united in marriage to Clara Kuhnemund on Feb. 28, 1932. The wedding was at the bride's home in Lahoma, Okla. Except for the few years when his family lived in Norton, Kans., beginning in 1909, Mr. Poppe has been a resident of the Chester community since his parents moved to Chester from Deshler in 1901. Mr. Poppe spent his life in this community as a farmer. He was also an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church holding various offices in the service of the church. Mr. Poppe passed away Sunday morning, August 13, 1961. He was at the Thayer County Memorial Hospital in Hebron where he had been a patient since last Thursday. He had attained the age of 66 years, five months and seven days. Surviving him are his wife, his sons: Bernard and Harold; his daughters: Wilma, Mrs. Albert Raatz, and Lois; and a granddaughter, Becky Sue Raatz; his brother, Fred Poppe; his sisters, Mrs. Martha Freitag of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Mrs. Doris Vorderstrasse of Vancouver, Wash. His parents and his brother, Walter, preceded him in death. The funeral service was arranged for Wednesday afternoon at St. John Lutheran Church, the Rev. Donald Patterson officiating. Singers were Norma Flathman and Karen Firnhaber, accompanied by Walter Firnhaber. Casket bearers were George Sell, Henry Kleen, Henry Kapperman, Kenneth Adamson, John Flathman, Jr., Fred Kapperman, Jr. Interment was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
