She was born July 6, 1920, at Fountain County, the daughter of Guy G. and Ruby Lee Smith Barker. She married Chancey W. Crowder Aug. 22, 1935. He died Dec. 22, 1968. She was a lifelong resident of Cates. She was a member of Prairie Creek Baptist Church. She was a seamstress at Steel Grip Safety Apparel for 11 years.
