Carol was born October 24, 1917 in Harlan County, near Huntley, Nebraska, the youngest of five children born to William Fredrick "Fred" and Melissa Jane (Sellers) Skiles. Read More	Ruth Carol "Carol" (Skiles) Thompson, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013, at Holdrege Memorial Homes, Holdrege, Nebraska. Carol was born October 24, 1917 in Harlan County, near Huntley, Nebraska, the youngest of five children born to William Fredrick "Fred" and Melissa Jane (Sellers) Skiles. Carol received her primary education from the Salem Grade School and then graduated from Huntley (NE.) High School with the class of 1935. At an early age, Carol became a member of the Methodist faith and devoted her life to serving the Lord. Following her education, Carol was employed as a sales clerk in Mr. Arnold's Department Store, Ragan, Nebraska. In 1942, she moved to Holdrege, Nebraska with her mother and sister, Mildred. Carol continued to work as a sales clerk as she began her employment for Charles Niehaus at Hested 5 and 10 Cent Store, Holdrege, Nebraska. On February 5, 1946, Carol was united in marriage to Robert Lee "Bob" Thompson, who returned home from serving three years in the Army. The couple then moved to Riverton, Nebraska. While in Riverton, Nebraska Kenton was born on April 5, 1949. The family continued to reside in Riverton, Nebraska until returning to Holdrege, Nebraska where Burton was born on January 14, 1958. In 2003, she began to make her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes, Holdrege, Nebraska. Carol was a member of the Methodist Church for over 75 years. She served in many capacities including: assisting with Vacation Bible School and was involved with Methodist Youth Fellowship. When the boys were young, she also volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Band Mothers. She was also active with Eastern Star for many years. Carol was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Robert Lee Thompson; great-grandson, Jace Ryan Jones; brother, Harold Skiles; sisters: Sylvia Miller and her husband, Verl, Mildred Mintzmyer and her husband, George and Verona Allmand and her husband, Walter. Carol leaves to mourn her passing: sons, Kenton Thompson and his wife, Marilyn and Burton Thompson and his wife, Stephanie all of Holdrege, Nebraska; grandchildren: Kelsey Thompson, Toria Jones and her husband, Josh, Lacey Carter and her husband, Jake, Byron Thompson, and Laura Thompson; great-grandchildren: Damien Jensen, Jeret Carter and Jaylee and Jaycee Jones and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Carol Thompson were conducted from the First United Methodist Church, Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Adams officiating. Interment was in Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, Nebraska.
