Description	:	Ruth Wollenberg, of Shawnee, Kan., passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, following a five-year battle with lung cancer. Ruth was born in Marshall County, Kan., on Sept. 6, 1935, the daughter of Lloyd and Nellie (Breeding) Dexter. Read More	Ruth Wollenberg, of Shawnee, Kan., passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, following a five-year battle with lung cancer. Ruth was born in Marshall County, Kan., on Sept. 6, 1935, the daughter of Lloyd and Nellie (Breeding) Dexter. She was raised in and around Marysville, Kan., and graduated in 1953 from Marysville High School. Ruth was a football and basketball queen candidate all four years of high school. She was a proud member of the Marysville High School Glee Club, Choir and Band where she served as a dedicated Baton Twirler and as the Drum Majorette her senior year. More recently, Ruth was an avid member and supporter of the Marysville High School Alumni Association. Following graduation, Ruth moved to Topeka, Kan., Omaha, Neb., and settled in Lincoln, Neb., where she worked at Woodmen Accident & Life Insurance Company. She married her handsome and loving husband, Glen Wollenberg, in 1955 and had two daughters, Lori and Terri. Ruth and her family later lived in Kansas City, Mo., and Mankato, Minn., while Glen worked for Farmland Industries. She and Glen moved to Overland Park, Kan., in 1991 where Ruth was employed at Universal Life Insurance and Padgett-Thompson before retiring shortly before Glen's death in 2009. Survivors include daughters, Lori (Jamie) Jackson of Shawnee, Kan., and Lieutenant Colonel Terri Wollenberg of Cascade, Iowa. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Margaret, Katherine and Tom Jackson, and Gabrielle and Gavin Foust-Wollenberg. She is also survived by all of her sisters, Mary Rownd, La Crosse, Wis., Viva Hinkle, Washington, Kan., Carol Knowlden, Prescott, Ariz., and Cathie Pitts, Boise, Idaho. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Glen Wollenberg, and her parents, Lloyd and Nellie (Breeding) Dexter. Funeral services and interment were conducted Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery in Merriam, Kan. In lieu of flowers, memorials in the name of Ruth Wollenberg may be made to the Marysville High School (MHS) Alumni Association, P.O. Box 305, Marysville, KS 66508 or to the organization of your choice. Obituary published in the Marysville Advocate on September 30, 2021.
