Description	:	PFAFFTOWN, NC ~ Ruth Gordon Waller, 97, passed away on December 27, 2008. She was born December 20, 1911 to Dallas and Ada Mitchell Gordon. Ruth grew up in the Pinnacle Community and graduated with honors from Pinnacle High School. She was a homemaker and worked in several family restaurants. In 1970, she began working at Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, NC, as a house counselor. She continued working there until her retirement in 1983. Read More	PFAFFTOWN, NC ~ Ruth Gordon Waller, 97, passed away on December 27, 2008. She was born December 20, 1911 to Dallas and Ada Mitchell Gordon. Ruth grew up in the Pinnacle Community and graduated with honors from Pinnacle High School. She was a homemaker and worked in several family restaurants. In 1970, she began working at Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, NC, as a house counselor. She continued working there until her retirement in 1983. Ruth had a life-long passion for gardening, and she was a charter member of the Pilot Mountain Garden Club. She enrolled in art classes taught by Linda Marion and Linda Beroth through Surry Community College. Her painting gave her great pleasure and brought so much joy to others. Ruth was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain and was a member of the WMU. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Francour of Winston-Salem, NC; and her two brothers, Loman and Mitchell Gordon of King, NC. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann Waller Jessup and Virgil Jessup of Winston-Salem, NC; two granddaughters, Virginia Mitchell Dilworth and husband, Vincent Anderer of Columbia, SC, and Joanna Lee Dilworth and husband, Robert DeJesus of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Ruth has one great-grandson, Lucas Hendrix DeJesus, and many special nieces and nephews. Even in the latter stages of her life, Ruth maintained a high degree of physical capacity and enjoyed a good quality of life. Reverend Gene Sherrill and Reverend Ramon Smith will conduct a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive visitors following the service. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain, 316 W. Main Street, the Charles H. Stone Memorial Library, 319 W. Main Street, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or to Salem Academy, P.O. Box 10548, Winston-Salem, NC 27108. The family wishes to express special thanks to Ann and Jim Lowe, Laura Morris, and the entire staff at Vienna Village for their kind and caring manner during Ruth's last years.
