Leo Jeambey in charge. Emma Jane Foss was the soloist and she was accompanied by Mrs. Leah Beery. Burial was in Friend's cemetery at Salem with six nephews serving as pallbearers: these were Arthur and Robert Watts of Yates Center, KS; Harold Masden of Ardmore, OK; Kenneth Mosher of Bonaparte, IA; LaMoyne Mosher and Walter Barton of Salem, Iowa. Ruth Mosher, daughter of Alonzo and Martha (Ratliff) Mosher, was born near Salem on March 15, 1867. She had a birthright membership in the Society of Friends and in later years united with the Christian Church. She was 15 years old when her mother died suddenly leaving a family of ten children, one, a baby. The daughter, Ruth readily assumed the responsibility of the home. Later she continued her education at Howe's Academy and taught in the schools of Henry County for a number of years. Upon the death of her father she went to Kansas and assisted in the rearing of several nieces and nephews who had been left motherless. On March 26, 1929, she was united in marriage to I. S. Speakman of Emporia, KS, who passed away in 1937. She then returned to Henry Co. and for the past seven years has been a companion to her Aunt, Mrs. Ratliff ,at whose home she died suddenly on Wednesday, July 14th . Surviving are three brothers and four sisters: E.R. Mosher of Saguache, Co.., A.M. Mosher of Montrose, Co., J.J. Mosher of Salem, IA; Maria Watts of Yates Center, KS; Mary Dillavou of Muscatine, IA; and Clara and Eva Barton of Salem, IA. There are also a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Anna Masden and Elizabeth Forsyth preceded her in death. Mrs. Speakman was a rare Christian character, having given her life in service to others and earned the reward "Well done, Thou good and faithful servant."
