The Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth Manatt was held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Maynard Brothersen officiated. Casket-Bearers were Adam Manatt, Sean Manatt, Brian Manatt, Greg Manatt, Craig Manatt, Ben Merical, Robert Manatt and Erik Manatt. Rosary services was held at 7:30 PM, Monday, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established. Ruth M. Backen Manatt, daughter of John Peter Otto Backen and Wilhelmina Dorothea Wiese Backen, was born July 21, 1930, near Tama, Iowa, Ruth was a graduate of Tama High School. On November 27, 1952, she was married to Clair Eugene Manatt at Kingsville, Texas. They moved to Brooklyn in 1954. Mr. Manatt died October 31, 1962. Ruth was a bookkeeper at Brooklyn 80 AMOCO and was a clerk for Donald Brannian's Auctions. Mrs. Manatt was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Altar & Rosary Society, and Frances Gallagher American Legion Auxiliary. She did volunteer work at Brookhaven Nursing Home. Surviving are five sons, Mike Manatt and his wife JoAnn of Brooklyn, Curt Manatt of Johnston, Alan Manatt and his wife Janet of Tama, Jerry Manatt of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Tom Manatt and his wife Linda of Ames; two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Doug Doolin of Hayden, Colorado, and Mary and Barry Kinsey of Lucas, Iowa; her long time friend, Don Brannian of Brooklyn; two sisters, Clara Reeder of Tama and Irma Vail of Albany, Oregon; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husband, two brothers and 2 sisters.
