A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1030 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames with Feather Everett Hermann presiding. Tom was born on August 19, 1960 in Grinnell, Iowa to Clair and Ruth (Backen) Manatt. He married Linda Ann Hardy on May 28, 1983 in Incline Village, Nevada. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Isaak Walton League, ISU Cyclone Club and various construction related associations. Tom's enthusiasm of life was infectious. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who would always put his family before himself. He was an avid outdoorsman who took advantage of the nature of his home state by hunting, fishing and hiking. Tom loved sports and went to hundreds of Iowa State football and Men's basketball games. He loved to travel, especially in the western states where he often took the family snow skiing. He began his construction career in Colorado as a traveling concrete crew foreman. After meeting his future wife in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he found his way back to Iowa and worked his way up through the family business from the trenches to upper management. Tom was the general Manager of Manatt's, Incorporated, Ames Division. He truly loved his job; his leadership and vision helped to bring the company to new heights. His caring hand touched more than just his family; he cared about all of those around him, and he was loved and admired by friends, coworkers and employees alike. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and children….He was preceded in death by his parents.
