Ruth Rosalee Lehman was born Nov. 9, 1925, to Leonard and Addie Lehman, in Mulberry, Kan. She spent her early years in Mulberry, Kan., graduating from Mulberry High School in 1943 as valedictorian of her class. Read More	BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Ruth Rosalee Parson, 87, of Bakersfield, Calif., died at 9:07 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Bakersfield, Calif. Ruth Rosalee Lehman was born Nov. 9, 1925, to Leonard and Addie Lehman, in Mulberry, Kan. She spent her early years in Mulberry, Kan., graduating from Mulberry High School in 1943 as valedictorian of her class. She moved to Kansas City to work in a defense plant as a part of the Greatest Generation. In 1944, she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to marry her childhood sweetheart, Harold N. Parson, who was training in the Merchant Marine Academy at Catalina Island. They were married March 11, 1944. After WWII ended, Highway 66 and Interstate 40 were roads well-traveled by the Parson family as they made yearly visits to maintain family ties. Together they had three children: Pete, Debby, and J. in 1957, the Parson Family moved to Bakersfield and settled in "a nice, little town" according to Ruth. Ruth was a 1969 graduate of Bakersfield College, having attended night classes and completing her Associate of Arts Degree as a day student. She was proud of this achievement as she wanted to go to college after high school but circumstances prevented her from doing so. Her hope was that all her children would finish college and they did so. In 1975, a new chapter began as grandchildren began to arrive. Ruth became a devoted Grammy to each one, always happy to see each one and proud of each one's milestones and achievements. Ruth followed the news of the world and read the newspaper faithfully. She had a wealth of knkowledge about living, learning, behaving properly, and Scriptures. She remembered memorizing Scriptures written on the walls at church when she was a small child. She had several favorites: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, "To everything there is a season...", John 14:1-3, "In my Father's house are many mansions..." and Philippians 3:14, "Do all things without complaining..." She was careful about offering her advice, but her children always knew where she stood. Ruth valued her independence and lived in her own home until very recently. Ruth passed away in the presence of her children on December 6, having lived a full life through some of the most tumultuous times of our history. She loved and was loved. She was a "virtuous woman", Proverbs 31. She will be missed. Preceded her were her husband, Harold Nels Parson, parents, Leonard and Addie Lehman, sisters, Susie Buckles and Doris Carlyle. Survived by children: Daryl W. Parson (Pete), Deborah E. Rodrigues (Debby), John L. Parson (J), grandchildren Jason Tyner, John Rodrigues, Jennifer Rodrigues, Katy Nieblas, John R. Parson, James Rodrigues, Will Parson and 12 great grandchildren, sister Carole Schifferdecker and husband John of Girard, Kansas, brother Wayne Lehman and wife Velda of Mulberry, Kansas. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kansas. Mark Lehman will give a eulogy. Burial will be at the Rosebank Cemetery at Mulberry, Kansas. Pallbearers will be John L. Rodrigues, James Rodrigues, Will Parson, John M. Rodrigues, Garrett Billington and Christopher Billington. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Bedene Chapel in Arma. The family suggests memorials to the Mulberry Funeral Dinner Fund. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
