Maurice Davis 5-12-04 Hawk Eye, The (Burlington, IA) - Wednesday, May 12, 2004 Born April 9, 1911, in Westphalia, Kan., he was the son of Jacob Wells and Edna Alice Isenberger Davis. On July 15, 1934, he married Mary Elizabeth Collais in Stockport. She died June 23, 2003. Mr. Davis worked for the Grand Union Tea Co. in Fort Madison from 1934 to 1936 and then farmed from 1936 to 1964. He worked at Carpenter Trade in the Stockport area from 1952 to 1964 and bought out Hawkeye Lumber Co. in Stockport, which became the Davis Lumber Co., which he sold in 1972. He was a 1930 graduate of Canon City High School in Canon City, Colo. He lived most of his life in the Stockport Community. After 1972, he and his wife traveled in their motor home for the next 20 years. They visited 48 continental states, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. He belonged to the Travco Motorcade. He was a scout master for Stockport Troop 100, was on the Union Township School Board and was a Union Township trustee for several years. He was a member of Stockport United Methodist Church and Stockport Lions Club, serving as president in 1972. Survivors include one son, Stanley Davis of Fairfield; one daughter, Marilyn Strothman of New London; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one infant grandson, two brothers and five sisters. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. The funeral for Mr. Davis will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Stockport United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael D. Renken officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
