Description	:	HEERY, SADA MELISSA—Sada Melissa Davis, daughter of Henry J. and Rhoda Adelia Davis, was born May 10, 1870, at Lake City, Minn. She came with her parents to Nebraska and the family settled on a homestead near Martland. The family put up a sod house in which to live while a new farm house was being erected. Read More	HEERY, SADA MELISSA—Sada Melissa Davis, daughter of Henry J. and Rhoda Adelia Davis, was born May 10, 1870, at Lake City, Minn. She came with her parents to Nebraska and the family settled on a homestead near Martland. The family put up a sod house in which to live while a new farm house was being erected. They were among the first homesteaders to come to this county. The Eden post office was kept by them for a while. She married Thomas E. Crowley March 6, 1890, and they started their homemaking on a farm near Strang. To them was born one daughter, Essie, now Mrs. Edgar Schelkopf. Mr. Crowley passed away in 1904. Five years later she was married to John Heery, of Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Heery departed this life June 10, 1945, leaving her once again a widow. Mrs. Heery was very well known over the county because she had lived here so long and had been engaged in so many capacities. On locating in Geneva, she continued to maintain her own residence as long as her general health permitted. The first of August, 1952, because of her weakening condition, she was satisfied to make her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Schelkopf. Mrs. Heery was an accomplished seamstress. She was on the faculty at the girls’ training school all during the superintendency of Lyda J. McMahon. She was employed 18 years as seamstress in the Reeve store in Geneva, doing altering and tailoring. She later continued her sewing work at her home. In 1954 the family thought it best to make her comfortable and contented at the Roselawn Home in Geneva. She like the home very much, and appreciated everything any of the people at the home did for her, and she received every attention until the final summons came for her, and she was released from this earthly life, Friday evening, May 25, 1956, while a close vigil was being kept over her. The Heavenly Father called her gently, most tenderly, just as she had always lived. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Schelkopf, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Kritner-Ashby funeral home, Sunday afternoon, May 27, at 3 o’clock. Dr. F. E. Pfoutz gave the memorial tribute; Rev. L. E. Schreurs read the scriptures and offered prayer; Miss Maude Mann, formerly of Geneva sang “Near to the Heart of God” and “Beyond the Sunset.” She was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Oscar nelson. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The pallbearers were Donald, Francis and Kenneth Kimbrough, Johnnie Girmus, Robert Schelkopf and Robert Sutter. The Nebraska Signal 31 May 1956 page 1
