SADIE JANE TODD DIED LAST THURSDAY Succumbed To Infirmities Of Age At Maryland Avenue Home WAS WIDOW OF THE LATE JAMES SMITH TODD Succumbing to the infirmities of age, Mrs. Sadie Jane Todd, one of the city's best beloved residents, passed away at her home on Maryland avenue Thursday evening of last week. She was the widow of the late James Smith Todd, and was 73 years age. Born in Virginia, she came to Crisfield 28 years ago with her husband, to establish their home here. For some time Mrs. Todd had been in failing health. She was a woman of fine Christian character, her greatest interest was in her home and children, and she was loved and respected by neighbers and acquaintances alike. Funeral serviees were held at her home at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. Melvin E. Wheatley. pastor of Immanuel Methodist Church officiating. Interment was beside her husband in the Crisfield Cemetery. The pall hearers were Ira T., Vervon, Major, George and Clarence Todd, and Lowndes Somers. Many beautiful floral pieces and the large number of relatives and friend at the funeral services spoke eloquently of the high regard and esteem in which she was generally held. She is survived by three children, one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Somers, and two sons, Wells W. Todd, recently elected to the Maryland House of Delegates and George Luther Todd. Another son, Lloyd, died in September of this year. Four step-children also survive, Mrs. Mollie Somers, Mrs. Maggie Somers, Mrs. Eunice Lankford, and J. Edward Todd. All, with the exception of Mrs. Lankford, who resides in Virginia, are Crisfield residents. The Crisfield Times, November 13, 1942 pg.1
