OBITUARY THE RUSSELL UNION-TRIBUNE Russell, Iowa Thursday, August 5, 1948 SAMUEL B. COOPER Samuel B. Cooper, a resident of Monroe County for over 82 years, passed away at his home on 10th Avenue West Thursday afternoon, July 29, at the age of 92 years and five months. He was born at Waverly, Indiana and came to Iowa with his parents, 5 sisters and two brothers, in 1866, making the journey in an ox-drawn covered wagon. The end of their journey was Troy township in Monroe county. Their first home was a log cabin. He was a farmer all his life, up until 9 years ago when he and his wife moved to Albia. He was married May 11, 1874, to Malissa J. Scott. They lived together over 70 years. Mrs. Cooper preceded her husband in death on Sept. 7, 1945. He became a Christian over 50 years ago, joining the Methodist church, but later he and his wife became members of the Bethel United Brethren church north of Russell. He was faithful in this relationship, living and dying strong in the Faith. He leaves to mourn his passing 5 daughters, Mrs. Mattie Bailey of Oklahoma, Mrs. Lizzie Foster of Albia, Mrs. Ada Grass of Aurora, Ill., Mrs. Carrie Ragan of Albia, Mrs. Jessie Kline of Albia; 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Humeston Funeral home, with the Rev. C. L. Young in charge. Burial was in the Bethel cemetery in the west part of the county, where they resided for so many years. Mr. Cooper was the grandfather of Mrs. Howard Larimer of Russell and a former resident of this community. Many of his friends will be saddened to hear of his passing.
